Gutierrez recognized for volunteer serviceBuena Park High School Senior Given President's Volunteer Service AwardAngel Villa Gutierrez, 17, has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a President's Volunteer Service Award signed by George W. Bush just before his leaving office. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by The Prudential Spirit of Community program on behalf of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. Villa participated in the Spirit of Community program this year as a representative of Buena Park High School, where he is a senior and a member of the award winning academy, Advanced Academics Academy. Gutierrez, a resident of Fullerton, earned his award by spending more than 500 hours tutoring children at the Orangethorpe Learning Center, as well as volunteering about 100 hours at the Fullerton Residence Manor. The center is particularly important to Gutierrez since he benefited from the tutoring nelp he received there from his kindergarten and through seventh grade years. He began volunteering the very next year. "I've been there my whole life! I just want to help others the way I was helped to achieve in school," Gutierrez said. Sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary Schools Principals, the Prudential Spirit of community Awards program recognizes young people throughout the United States for outstanding community service activities. More than 250,000 young people have been considered for these awards since the program began in 1995. "The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities," said John R. Strangfeld, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial. "They truly deserve all of the praise and encouragement we can give them." "The young people recognized by the Spirit of Community Awards demonstrate an enormous capacity for giving and reaching out to those in need," said Gerald N. Tirozzi, executive director of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Gutiérrez reconocido por servicio voluntarioEstudiante de BPHS recibe premio presidencialÁngel Villa Gutiérrez, de 17 años de edad, ha sido honrado por su servicio voluntario ejemplar, recibiendo un Premio Presidencial para Servicio Voluntario firmado por George W. Bush antes de su salida del oficio presidencial. El premio, que reconoce a norteamericanos de todas edades que han dado cantidades significantes de su tiempo en servicio voluntario a sus comunidades y a su país, fue presentado en un programa Prudential de Espíritu de la Comunidad en nombre del Consejo Presidencial para Servicio y Participación Cívica.
